About

Avenue51 is a small, family-owned business run by Caroline and Volker and their two sons Marlon and Luis, established in 2020. Originally from Germany, they've been living in Wellington for the past 15 years. Caroline and Volker both grew up in a very rural area in the South of Germany, between lots of fields, forests and rivers and were used to help their parents on their farms and businesses to earn some pocket money by mowing the lawns and picking fruits.

After enjoying the urban lifestyle in and around Wellington and establishing two sucessful careers in engineering and business acounting, the memories of their childhood experiences was still present and they wanted to provide a similar experience to their kids.

They took the opportunity to become owner of a 5000m2 lifestyle block in the outskirts of Levin in 2020.

The previous owners started a little walnut orchard with approximately 20 walnut trees plus a selection of other fruit trees in 2012 and spend lots of time, love and passion to establish this little piece of paradies, but are now in their well-deserved retirement.

Since 2015, the walnut harvest is distributed to various farmer's markets, shops and cafes in and around Levin and Wellington.

Avenue51's aim is it continue with the work already provided and develop the property and business further while maintaining the family and natural touch. More fruits trees have already been planted over the last few months.

Our walnut trees are of the "Shannon" variety. A locally crafted variety from the Manuwatu which produces large, fully flavoured walnuts. Surrounded by very fertile soil, no chemical and fertilisers are used to produce our delicious walnuts. The walnuts harvest is typically around March/April. The walnuts are then cleaned and dried for a few weeks before being distributed.
